A special thanks to Brendan Memory, Martin Colford and the team, who arranged for the Rotunda to be illuminated in purple last night joining many landmark buildings worldwide to promote the international day of awareness.
Lighting up for World Prematurity Day at the Rotunda Hospital
World-renowned pianist Joanna McGregor at the Pillar Room, Rotunda Hospital.
Pianist Joanna McGregor recently performed at the Pillar Room in a concert presented by Music Network. McGregor is renowned for her dazzling technique, irrepressible energy and musical intellect and for this concert she devised a musical sketch of her life: an eclectic and engaging programme with spine-tingling renditions of Bach via Piazzolla and Thelonious Monk, as well as a brand new commission from Irish composer Conor Linehan.
Since coming to prominence in the 1980s, Joanna MacGregor has built a formidable reputation as one of the world’s most innovative – and tireless – musicians. A renowned concert pianist, she is also a highly-respected composer, curator, conductor and teacher. Throughout her career, MacGregor has repeatedly broken the mould, thanks in part to a hugely diverse repertoire stretching from the Baroque canon to improvised jazz and North American avant-garde.

Pillar Room To Be Used For Film Screening and Q&A with actor Colm Meany during St Patrick's Festival
A special screening of ‘The Snapper’ will take place in The Rotunda Hospital (on Sat March 15 at 7.00pm). The screening is taking place for two reasons - firstly the hospital featured as a location in the film and secondly, author Roddy Doyle’s Barrytown Trilogy (The Commitments, The Snapper & The Van) is the Dublin City Libraries’ Dublin: One City One Book choice for 2015. Colm Meaney, acclaimed Irish actor, who plays the character of Dessie Rabbitte, will be interviewed by RTÉ’s John Kelly on the night. The Pillar Room provides an important source of income for the Friends of the Rotunda which is delighted that this event is being hosted in it. Click here for info about tickets (which are free).
